THE CONSERVATIVE, March 25, 1983-Page 5 news again on April 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Vaiden Friends of the Library At the regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 15, the Vaiden Friends of the Library elected Mrs.Maxine Welch as president. Mt.

Pisgah Sunshine Circle Thirty members gathered Thursday, March 4 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for the regular monthly meeting of the Sunshine Circle. President Allan Patterson opened the meeting with song and prayer and the secretary, Loree Montgomery, read the minutes from the February meeting. Memorial tributes were paid to Moss Harper, Bud Montgomery and Russel Montgomery whom we have lost this last year. Lucille Patterson led the share time with contributions from various members.

After a short break for card-signing time when members signed cards to be send to members, friends and families whom they wish to remember, the meeting reconvened for a short devotional given by Rev. Gary Tanner. His topic was the significance of several of the most familiar Bible passages. A delicious dinner was served by Nell Whitfield, Leona Campbell and Mary Patterson. The tables were centered with arrangements of spring flowers and each place was marked with shamrock pins in honor of the season.

The meeting was dismissed to be held Beatty FCE Club The Beatty FCE Club met in the Vaiden Library Friday, March 19 for their regular meeting. The 12 members and one visitor joyed the program on "creative ways of protecting yourself." All the enways of protecting yourself at home from break-ins and robbery to traveling to malls and grocery stores. In your cars, keep the doors locked and never go alone. Always protect yourself; your property can be replaced. Your home can have motion lights and alarms; these things can be purchased at local stores and are not too expensive any 1 more.

There will be a pamphlet out soon on 25 Ways to Protect Your Home. Four educational chairmen reports were given: Child and Family by Linda Parks, Community Special Projects by Alice Lee Cox, Health and Nutrition by Elizabeth Summerhill and Environmental by Helen Browning. Reports were given on the county style show and awards program. The Beatty Club and members received some awards. Two people modeled in the style show: Susie Kinney and Katherine Briscoe.

There were 10 members to attend the North Central Area FCE meeting in Winona on March 18. Alice Lee Cox and the Beatty Club did the fun time entertainment at the area meeting. We welcome a new club member, Mattie McIntosh. The next meeting for the Beatty Club will be April the public is invited. Jefferson Family and Community Education Association The Jefferson FCE members met Tuesday, March 9, at the Liberty Baptist Church fellowship hall.

The hostesses were Janice Hays and Sylvia White. The St. Patrick's Day theme was carried out with the green and shamrocks. The refreshments were pretty as well as delicious. Devotional was given by the members and the group sang "Have Faith in God." Nell Whitfield, club president, gave a report on the awards and Fashion Revue held at Vaiden Library earlier in March.

Our club members received many awards. Mary Alston received a Certificate of Award for 50. years of club service. She will receive her pin at the state meeting in May at MSU. She also had perfect attendance for the year of 1992 at club meetings.

Others with perfect attendance were Nettie Turner, Nell Whitfield and Beatrice Turnipseed. Christine Neely advanced to the area meeting in the Fashion Revue wearing a beautiful teal dress which she made. Christine also received the Program of the Year 1 for our club. This program was presented to our club by Sylvia White, environmental chairman. She invited Andy Taylor to come to our club from US Forestry.

Christine was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for 25 years with the Homemakers Club in Jefferson and Grenada counties. She had perfect attendance at all county council meetings in 1992. Nettie Turner received many awards for her faithful work in our club. They were presented to her daughter, Lucia White. We are so proud of each of our club members that received these awards; they work so hard in accomplishing them.

A report was given by Sylvia White on our ongoing project of collecting labels for the Children's Hospital in Jackson. We ask you to save Campbell, Heinz, and Scott labels and give to any club member. Those serving on the committee are Janice Hays, Sylvia White, Jane Blair and Gennett DuBard. This is for a very worthy cause and we need outside people to help us. Janice gave a demonstration on how to make beautiful baskets from grocery sacks and ribbon.

It's very inexpensive but turns into a pretty basket in which to display flowers, pine cones, whatever. We appreciate Janice and her good ideas in our club. We had 12 members present that enjoyed Elise Estes' quiz during our fellowship time. Our next meeting will be April 13 at 1:00 p.m. Everyone i is invited to come and learn, create and have fun.

Ollie Beck and Janice tied for the quiz prize and Jane Blair received the door prize. Big Sand Homemakers Club The March meeting of the Big Sand Homemakers was held at the library with Mrs. Launa Howard and Mrs. Kathleen Vickers serving as hostesses. Mrs.

Estelle Cooper presided during the business period at which time members gave suggestions for enlisting more members and upcoming program ideas. The club welcomed Mrs. Eleanor Wilkes of McCarley as a visitor. Eighteen members were present. When the members arrived, they each had brought family heirlooms and small antique linens, buttermolds, purses, hats, buttons, lace, trays, lamps, small vintage graniteware pieces, soda fountain glasses and spoons which were from Powell's Drug Store in North Carrollton, Confederate money, a blue-black speller, a financial journal from the late 1800s, and many other small articles.

Mrs. Edna Johnston came dressed in a beautiful antique outfit complete with petticoat with ruffles and lace. Her shoes were hightop buttoned black leather. Her dress was in the Captain Roy house when the Johnstons acquired it. Her antique hand linens were made by Miss Ella Williams and are often used by Mrs.
